easily one of the most obnoxious hetero romcom/drama tropes is when one of the ppl in the couple has big dreams that they’ve been struggling to achieve and one day they finally start succeeding and then the other person gets jealous and sad that they’re not the center of the universe anymore so they stage an ultimatum of “it’s either your life goals that you’ve wanted your whole life and have been struggling for years to achieve or me, who apparently only supported you when your were failing and am angry at your success because your happiness makes me angry when it’s not about me, make your choice :/” and most of the time it works 

this is your friendly reminder that if your partner only likes it when you’re doing badly and in need of them, they’re not actually supportive of you, they want someone who they can control.
