Don’t stop paying rent (if possible) until you have organized with other tenants of the same landlord. Local tenants’ unions can give you advice on where to start.

A rent strike requires having other people on board so you’re not just one “problem tenant” that your landlord can retaliate against easily. You need to have enough tenants (ideally all) on board that the landlord can’t retaliate easily. And you need to have a plan about how to handle retaliation (who will handle maintenance when your landlord refuses? can you pool your funds for a lawyer who can tell you when something your landlord is doing is illegal/what you can do about it?). You also need to actually tell your landlord about the rent strike, and do it in the right way.

A rent strike is a fantastic tool, but it’s not a one-person job. And others on the internet don’t count - if your particular landlord only has to deal with YOU and nobody else, you’re an easy target.
